KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15: The Central Bank of Kuwait has advised all banks and financial institutions to take precautionary measures as a criminal organization is copying data from credit cards by using miniature watches equipped with cameras to record data of clients and then use them to withdraw money, reports Al-Rai daily.

The Central Bank urged the banks and financial institutions to prevent attempts to penetrate the accounts of their clients and to provide information on any attempt to penetrate the bank or financing institution. This came after the Ministry of Interior informed the Central Bank that it received a letter sent by Colombian authorities to the General Secretariat of Interpol regarding the modus operandi of the organization.

The letter explained that the perpetrators approach the users of bank cards, with some of them standing at a distance to record the PIN numbers that the customers enter in the automated machine. Besides using miniature watches to copy bank card data, they also install a device in the automated machine to copy bank card data and then withdraw money. So far, the Central Bank has not received any complaints on unauthorized withdrawals.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry sent an official letter to its health counterpart requesting for inclusion of meth on the list of prohibited substances, reports Al-Anba daily. This came after statistics proved that the number of people consuming this substance exceeded 700 since the beginning of the year.

According to the law, the Interior Ministry cannot take legal action against these people because the consumption of meth has not been criminalized. A security source disclosed Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid is keen on addressing the issue and the two ministries are coordinating their efforts to implement the proposal. And, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs banned a Kuwaiti Imam from preaching as he talked about political matters in violation of the Mosques Charter, reports Al-Qabas daily. Informed sources in the ministry said the imam had earlier been interrogated by the Religious Affairs Committee, but he repeated the act.
