KUWAIT CITY, Feb 22: Four Bangladeshi expatriates along with an employee of Ministry of Health were arrested for manipulating the medical test results of expatriate workforce.

In a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, the General Department of Public Relations and Media Security explained that detectives from the General Department of Residency Investigations had received reports about an unwell Bangladeshi who received a medical certificate that attested he was fit to work as a cook in a house.

The detectives, after verifying the information, referred the Bangladeshi to the Public Health Department where he had to retake the medical test. The results revealed that he is medically unfit because he is suffering from Hepatitis B.

When questioned, the suspect revealed that he was aware of his contagious medical condition and he had falsified his medical certificate from his country, after which he had paid KD 350 to someone in Kuwait in order to pass the medical test so that he can receive residency and work permit.

Further investigations led to the discovery that four Bangladeshis have been playing the role of middlemen between the concerned employee in Ministry of Health and the suspect such that the employee would be paid to change the results of those who failed medical tests.

The employee and his middlemen were arrested and referred to the concerned authorities where necessary legal measures have been taken against them.

Meanwhile, the General Department of Residency Investigations revealed that it has uncovered a forgery operation after a Kuwaiti citizen reported about a Bangladeshi expatriate who is registered under his sponsorship without his knowledge.

Investigations on the citizen’s complaint revealed that the citizen’s half brother registered the Bangladeshi under his sponsorship. When they questioned the citizen’s half brother, he confessed to having colluded with his friend and an employee in the Department of Residency Affairs in Mubarak Al-Kabeer, where they managed to forge the signature of his brother and attain necessary documents in order to obtain a residency permit for the expatriate.

The department also discovered that the half brother had forged another document which indicated that he had received a plot from the government, which will enable him to bring expatriate workforce. During interrogations, he confessed to all of the forgery accusations leveled against him.

In addition, detectives from the General Department of Residency Affairs conducted an inspection campaign in various cafés in Hawally area during which they arrested 52 people who are in violation of the residency law.
