Ban imposed on import of second-hand vehicles – Scanner checks trucks at border

KUWAIT, May 16: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid approved a decision banning the issuance of certificate of road worthiness to drive imported scrap vehicles as taxis and towing cars, reports Al-Shahed daily.
The daily quoting a source added the decision is meant to protect the rights of citizens against cheating after discovering that some vehicles involved in accidents were imported into the country from the US and Canada.
The source also said car dealers normally issue certificate of road worthiness for such vehicles and display them for sale. He stressed the new decision puts an end to the import of road unworthy vehicles into the country.
Meanwhile, Customs Supervisor Saad Al-Mutairi said the scanner which has been installed at the Abdali Border Post takes just two-and-a-half minutes to check the contents of the truck or may be a little longer depending on the size of the truck, reports Al-Anba daily.
He explained things are going very well, thanks to the inspectors, who are the main pillars in the customs inspection process.
He stated the Abdali border post has been provided with the complete inspection tool containing the e-fiber telescope, density measuring apparatus as well as radiology tools and electronic flashlights.
And, Director of Public Relations and Security Media Department at Ministry of Interior Brigadier Adel Al-Hashash declared that the General Traffic Department has received 220 new patrol vehicles which will be used from Tuesday, May 17, revealing that the department will receive 220 more patrol vehicles by beginning of June.
In a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, he said the colors of the patrol vehicles were changed based on a study carried out for a long time in line with international standards and in order for the public to differentiate the different sectors of the ministry based on the colors of the vehicles.
Brigadier Al-Hashash affirmed that any action taken by the ministry is often preceded by a media campaign to educate the citizens and expatriates about the action.
He said the Public Relations and Security Media Department will follow-up with each sector of the ministry about the new patrol vehicles they receive and will announce the details of the vehicles to the public.
Brigadier Al-Hashash revealed that the Public Security Sector will receive 240 new patrol vehicles shortly and another 243 vehicles in June.
