Vienna, Nov 17, 2016 (AFP) -Austrian police have busted a Chinese sex trafficking ring and arrested six people, the EU’s joint police network Europol said Thursday.
Those detained are suspected of having baited women in China into paying 10,000 euros (dollars) in return for a visa for Austria and a guarantee of future work as child minders and massage therapists.
Once in Austria, the women’s passports were confiscated and they were forced into prostitution, Europol said.
It estimated that between 150 and 300 women were victims over the past few months, dispatched to brothels in several Austrian cities.
