Asian Embassies: “The decision to screen before coming to Kuwait will put pressure on our health system”

Coronavirus free certification to effect 100,000 Indians, 50,000 Filipinos, 10,000 Bangladeshis and 10,000 Sri Lankans

KUWAIT CITY, Mar 05: Number of Asian embassies in Kuwait agreed that Kuwait’s decision to prevent their nationals from entering the country without a certificate proving that they are free of Corona virus approved by the Kuwaiti embassy in their country will put great pressure on the health sector in their countries, stressing that they understand Kuwait’s concern and precautionary measures taken by Kuwait to protect its people and reduce the spread of this epidemic.

Sources said that they are following this decision with the Kuwait authorities to know all the details related to this issue, pointing out that they have not received the formal decision through the Kuwaiti authorities until now, but they learned about it through the media.

When diplomats of Asian countries were asked about expat community that are likely to be affected negatively by the decision, which may last for three months.

Indian diplomat said that we understand the concern of Kuwait about spread of virus, he confirmed that the Indian community in Kuwait is about one million people, that makes around 100,000 who will be affected by this decision within three months which will gradually decrease after the application of this decision.

The Consulate General of Kuwait in Mumbai had issued a circular to prevent all those without a virus-free certificate from the centers accredited to the embassy from entering Kuwait

A Filipino diplomat said that the number of their workers in Kuwait reaches about 234,000, pointing out that the number of those who will be affected by the decision within three months may reach about 50,000. He further stated that new arrivals to Kuwait is about 10,000 per month, besides those who go on annual leave and return.

Sri Lankan diplomat stated that the implementation of this decision will put severe pressure on the health system in Sri Lanka, he respects the Kuwait’s decision. He further stated that the number of the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait is about 108,000, and around 10,000 will be immediately affected in these 3 months.
