Asia discus throw, shooting tourney kicks off

Kuwait continues to make achievements

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 4, (KUNA): The Asia discus throw and shooting championship was inaugurated on Saturday in Kuwait, with the participation of a great number of male and female athletes representing 35 countries.

The competitions of the tourney began on Sunday and run until Nov 12.

Kuwait continues to make achievements, thanks to the great support by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, the championship’s sponsor, told reporters in remarks after the inauguration.

Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem, also honorary president of Kuwait Shooting Sport Club, welcomed Kuwait’s guests taking part in the event.

For his part, President of the Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC) Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa wished in a similar statement that the event would be a chance for developing skills and performance of the continent’s athletes, lauding the organizing committee’s efforts.

He expressed the confederation’s gratitude to Kuwait’s keenness on organizing such major championships.

He expected that that the competitions would include a brilliant performance, amid participation of the most important shooters of Asia.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) vice-president Luciano Rossi, Acting Deputy Director Manager of Public Authority for Sport Saqr Al-Mulla as well as some members of the ASC, heads of delegations and male and female shooters.
