KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: Traffic officers issued 5,293 citations, seized 273 vehicles and arrested 49 individuals during an extensive traffic campaign they launched in all six governorates under the supervision of Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Sulaiman Fahad Al-Fahad. In a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, the Public Relations and Security Media Department explained that the campaign was launched based on instructions from Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in order to reduce the number of traffic violations and arrest those who are not driving safely.

Lieutenant General Al-Fahad had distributed patrol teams to various roads and ordered them to set up checkpoints and fix radars to spot traffic violations. The arrested individuals included 18 who were detained in traffic custody, 27 juveniles for driving vehicles without a drivers’ license, one individual for possessing drugs and three individuals for holding expired residencies.

The department affirmed that General Traffic Department will continue to hold such traffic campaigns to ensure the protection and safety of road users, stressing the need for motorists to follow the traffic rules and regulations as well as the instructions of traffic officers. It also stressed the need for motorists to carry their drivers’ licenses whenever they are driving and to maintain the condition of their vehicles.
