Arab woman dies, 3 hurt in Salmiya fire – Bedoun stabbed in fight

KUWAIT CITY, June 7: An Arab woman, in her 70s, died while three expatriates suffered from shortness of breath and got burns in different parts of their bodies when fire broke out on the second fl oor of a fourstorey building in Salmiya.

Firefighters and medical emergency workers rushed to the location after the Operations Unit at Kuwait Fire Service Directorate received information on the incident. They immediately evacuated the building and doused the fire in record time. Sadly, the incident led to the death of an elderly Arab woman and caused injuries to three other expatriates who were taken to a nearby hospital.

The remains of the woman were referred to the Criminal Evidence Department. Hawally Fire Center Director Brigadier Mohammad Al-Mehaimeed personally supervised the fire-out and rescue operations, along with other high-ranking officials.

Meanwhile, a Bedoun man sustained stab wound in his shoulder in a bloody fight with two other Bedouns at Sulaibiya farms area, in the course of which gunshots were fired at the vehicle of the injured man.

A team of security operatives accompanied paramedics to the scene when the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry received news about the bloody fight and gunshots. The injured person had been taken to Jahra Hospital in a private car before the arrival of security operatives but they followed up the case to Jahra Hospital to question the victim since traces of gunshots were visible on his car.

The victim admitted knowing the two suspects who assaulted and stabbed him in the shoulder, indicating one of them fired gunshots at his vehicle before fleeing the scene. The police collected details of the suspects and investigation is underway to arrest them.

In another story, an Indian expatriate filed a case with officers in Hawalli police station against the driver of a mini-van who intercepted and assaulted him along the Fourth Ring Road. He provided the vehicle registration number of the suspect, and investigation is ongoing to arrest him.
