KUWAIT CITY, July 21: The Arab Volleyball Association’s newly elected president Abdulhadi Al-Shabib said on Thursday that the association seeks to set up a game development center targeting all those involved in the game. In an interview with KUNA, Al- Shabib, who is also chairman of the Kuwait Volleyball Association, said the planned facility is mainly intended to develop the skills of referees, executives and coaches by means of providing them with training courses. He added that the association is keen on using the help of high-profile world experts in order to deliver their knowledge and experience to Arab volleyballers.

On the body’s future plan, he pointed out that first and foremost, timetables would be determined for forthcoming volleyball championships and tournaments, taking international sports schedules into consideration. He underlined that friendly games would be also held between Arab and foreign teams with a view to upgrading the Arab position in world rankings, suggesting that a “super game” could take place between an Arab national team and the European or Asian champion. Furthermore, the association’s new presidency is interested in encouraging and spurring girls to join the game, given that women across the Arab world are remarkably interested in volleyball, Al-Shabib remarked.
