KUWAIT CITY, Nov 5: The Court of Appeals canceled the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance which refrained from penalizing a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of possessing hashish and Tremadol pills and driving under narcotic influence. The court instead acquitted the defendant.

The Public Prosecution had charged the citizen of possessing the above mentioned drugs without receiving legal authorization for its use and of driving under narcotic influence, as indicated in the investigation report.

The defense counsel Lawyer Zaid Al-Khabbaz stressed the illegality of the arrest procedures carried out on his client due to lack of incriminating evidences. He also expressed doubt over the logicality of the incident based on the witness’ statement.

He dismissed all procedures that followed the arrest and investigations, and demanded cancellation of the appeal and acquittal of his client.

Professor freed on bail: The Criminal Court refrained from pronouncing penalty against a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of having consensual sex with his 19-year-old student. The court instead released him on bail and obligated him to sign a pledge of good conduct for one year.

According to the case file, the student and her university professor were involved in a sexual relationship with the intention of marrying in the future. When her father questioned her about the reason behind her long absences from home, she revealed the truth about her relationship with her professor. He then took her to the police station where he filed a case against the professor.

During the court session, the defense counsel Lawyer Ayed Al-Rasheedi pointed out the contradictions in the statements of the investigation officer and the victim.

He said his client admitted to having a relationship with his student but with the intention of marrying her; but her family refused him many times.
