Amir, Erdogan hold official talks

ANKARA, March 21, (KUNA): An official reception was held for His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah in Ankara Tuesday on the occasion of his state official visit to Turkey. His Highness the Amir was welcomed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The national anthems of both countries were played and His Highness the Amir was given a 21-gun salute.

His Highness the Amir then shook hands with Turkish officials, while the Turkish president did the same thing with His Highness the Amir’s accompanying delegation. Afterwards, official talks were held between His Highness the Amir and the Turkish president on historic firm relations between Kuwait and Turkey and ways of promoting and developing existing partnership in all domains for the common interest of both countries, in addition to efforts to bolster cooperation in various fields.

They also discussed major issues of mutual interest and exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments. The talks were held in a friendly atmosphere that reflected mutual understanding and friendship between both nations’ leaderships. His Highness the Amir has significantly contributed to promoting friendship ties between Kuwait and Turkey to cover all fields, Erdogan said on Tuesday.

Erdogan made the statement after he bestowed upon His Highness the Amir the “Order of the State of Turkey”, the most prestigious honor offered by Turkey’s leader to presidents. The president and His Highness the Amir attended Tuesday the signing ceremony of a host of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to ratchet up cooperation between both nations.

These friendship ties are a symbol of the strong relations and mutual confidence between the two countries, Erdogan  said, noting that both share views on the Mideast issues, where they play major roles. No doubt, His Highness the Amir’s visit will help bolster bilateral ties in the future, adding to a historical legacy of distinguished ties, he said.

The Turkish President also described the UN 2014 honoring of His Highness the Amir as a “Humanitarian Leader” and Kuwait as a “Humanitarian Center,” as a well-deserved honor, referring to the huge aid Kuwait has been offering to Syrian refugees and the needy around the globe. Erdogan highly appreciated His Highness the Amir’s cooperation and solidarity with Turkey at this point of history, reaffirming intent to carry on with hard work to further enhance bilateral relations in all fields.

The two sides today signed six agreements, three of them on grants for a response plan to the Syrian refugees in Turkey, and a fourth for tourist cooperation. They also sealed two MoUs for military and Islamic affairs cooperation. Arriving in Ankara Monday, His Highness the Amir held talks earlier today with the Turkish president.

His Highness the Amir also received at his residence in Ankara today the Turkish Prime Minister the Turkish president and Parliament Speaker Ismail Kahraman. His Highness the Amir and the President of Turkey are eager to solidify ties between the two countries, the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Ismail Kahraman said on Tuesday. “The meeting was fruitful and reflects the deep-rooted ties between both countries who are eager to boost relations on all possible domains,” Kahraman told KUNA after he met with His Highness the Amir at his residence in Ankara, Turkey.

Kahraman expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Kuwaiti political leadership and people over their support to the Turkish state against the failed cope attempt which took place in mid- July 2016. His Highness the Amir arrived earlier to Ankara late Monday. His Highness Sheikh Sabah expected to meet the Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.
