KUWAIT CITY, Nov 21: Alghanim Industries, one of the largest privately owned companies in the region, was a premium sponsor of the International Education Week, which was organized by AMIDEAST, and had its opening on the evening of Nov 15 at the Marina Hotel in Salmiya.

The aim of this initiative is to familiarize youth in Kuwait with a varied group of organizations which help enhance their abilities and knowledge in order for them to better themselves and their community. Alghanim Industries always strives to support such initiatives, and speaking to that effect, the Chairman of Alghanim Industries and member of the Board of Directors at AMIDEAST, Kutayba Alghanim, said: “As a Kuwaiti businessman, I feel a great sense of responsibility towards the youth in our society.

We live in an age of great talent, which is in need of nurture and support. In Kuwait, where our government has graciously established a fund to support small to medium enterprises; I don’t believe our youth lacks funding.

The real problem they face is education and the lack of opportunities, through which they can learn key skills for today’s business environment. This is what makes me one of the most avid backers of youth initiatives that foster education and entrepreneurship. I’m proud to renew Alghanim Industries’ commitment towards a goal we’ve been working towards, in partnership with AMIDEAST, for over four decades.”

Dari Al Reshaid Al Bader, Vice-President of Corporate Affairs at Alghanim Industries, representing the company, spoke to the attendees during the opening ceremony, “Alghanim Industries considers youth empowerment to be one of our key pillars, not only of our Corporate and Social Responsibility strategy, but also of our company’s strategy as a whole. We invest in conferences and seminars, and open them to the public.

We emphasize training, education and skill building because of the pivotal role they play in empowering youth. A role which enables them to adapt to our fast-changing world. And we work with young entrepreneurs or aspiring entrepreneurs by equipping them with key skills such as financial literacy, creative thinking and problem solving. This stems from our belief that entrepreneurship and small businesses will be central to the future of jobs, not only for the nation – but for the region as a whole.”

AMIDEAST’s Country Director for Kuwait, Ms Samar Khleif, also said: “AMIDEAST is a global organization that dates back 60 years and has a presence in more than 12 countries. We work to support education through any means available, and we are able to adapt our strategies based on the countries in which we operate.

We recognize Kuwait’s economic need of raising a youthful generation that is educated, confident, and capable of building its future economy as well as giving back to its community. In order to achieve that, we have worked with and have found support from various governmental and private entities, as well as other non-governmental organizations, and we thank them for their cooperation with us.

I would especially like to thank Alghanim Industries and its Chairman, Kutayba Alghanim, who have been one of our partners and supporters ever since we started working in Kuwait, and long before then.”

This initiative comes as part of Alghanim Industries’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which is committed to empowering the underprivileged, supporting education and encouraging entrepreneurship. It is worth noting that the company was the Strategic Sponsor for the fifth annual Tmkeen Youth Symposium, an initiative that provides youth with valuable insights about entrepreneurship from industry leaders, academics and experts, and was held under the patronage of the Amir, HH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah. The company is also the largest supporter for INJAZ-Kuwait, as it encourages its employees to volunteer regularly in INJAZ’s different programs.

Around 150 youth attended the opening ceremony of the event. Participating companies and organizations included: The Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, The Embassy of the United States, KAFO, LOYAC, INJAZ-Kuwait, AIESEC, Spread the Passion, The Protoges, Training Gate, in addition to alumni from programs sponsored by the US Department of State.
