KUWAIT CITY, Oct 31: Most opposition groups which boycotted the 2013 elections had no problems with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and they never intended to undermine his authority or constitutional prerogatives, as they were against the government and its policies because the performance of the executive authority did not meet the demands and aspirations of the people, says Third Constituency candidate and former MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei.

In an interview with Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA, German Press Agency) from Cairo, Egypt; Al-Tabtabaei said some people wish that the upcoming elections will produce a Parliament which compromises with the government just like its predecessor. He believes the dissolution of the previous Parliament was aimed at preventing passage of austerity measures and burdens associated with the economic reform policy.

He claimed, “They did not want this to happen in the last session of the previous legislative term, for the former MPs not to lose supporters in their constituencies. They intend to do it at the beginning of the new Parliament for the incoming lawmakers to have a chance within four years to mitigate the impact of such measures by compensating their supporters and providing them with certain services.”
