KUWAIT CITY, March 2: There is really no stopping the FAST-Kuwait team with their weekly shoot-out competition as Mohammed Al Shatti topped the Standard Category after missing several fun-shoot competitiosn due to his busy work schedule. There is also no stopping Waleed Al Mutawah who continues to top Professional Category every week.

The ‘W for the Win’ scenario was created this time by FAST President Ronil Paul Garcia with lot of help from the rest of the group including Range Officer Wilbert Zingapanto who observed the safety positions of the targets to ensure the safety of everyone taking part in the competition.

The ‘W for the Win’ scenario is the name given to the scenario because the design of the charge lines and barricades happens to be ‘W’ where 2 targets are placed in the middle about 5 meters from the tip of the center charge line, there are 2 more targets on the left and the right which is covered by a no-shoot target.

There are 3 targets on the farther left and right side of the middle target but the catch on this scenario is that the shooter has to start in the center and he has to decide which shooting area to take and where to take the shots as long as the shooters are inside the charge line or the shooting area.

The targets on the left and right can be engaged from the corner at 7- 8 meters or if they have wanted to, they can go as close as 3 meters but as the saying goes, ‘The Bullet Runs Faster than the Feet’, meaning if they have to go closer to the targets, the more time they have to use to finish the entire course.

At the start of the fun-shoot, Garcia told all competitors that safety was the priority of both the range and the organization and briefed them with the scenario after which, they gave each competitor a ‘5 minutes’ walk through the course of fire.

An aggregate scoring method is used to calculate the final score for each competitor with a bullet in Alpha earning 5 points, while in Bravo and Charlie brought 3 points and Delta 1 point. The time taken to complete the shoot plays a major part in the standing as the total score is divided by the time taken over the course to get the result.

The shooter can also get penalized and get 10 points deducted from the total score if they make procedural errors by hitting the no-shoot targets. They can also be disqualified if they violate any gun safety handling rules.

If there is a malfunction of any of the range equipment during the competition, the shooter will be given or allowed to a re-shoot, although today’s competition is one of their annual shooting events, re-shoots will not be accommodated this time and all competitors will shoot 1 time.

Standard Category

Mohammed Al Shatti finally made it for tonight’s competition, although he had missed several fun-shoot specially one of the major competition which is the Valentine Cup. He came in with a vengeance tonight as he took the 1st place easily with 12 Alpha, 4 Charlie and 4 Delta and the only shooter from the same category who had a perfect shoot performance under 31.80 seconds that gave him 2.3899 hit factors.

He took on the course for the 2nd time but it looks like he just wanted to have fun as it took him 37.38 seconds to finish the course and collected 10 Alpha, 1 Bravo, 7 Charlie and 2 Delta for another perfect shoot performance but could not top his 1st attempt for 2.0332 hit factors.

In the 2nd place is Aldwin Aragon, a new member of the club and gave a big surprise to the rest of the group, although this is his 2nd time to join with the FAST-Kuwait. He is not new to practical shooting. He finished the course in 35.24 seconds and collected the most number of his Alpha with 13 and 2 Charlie, 3 Delta along with 2 Mikes for 1.5323 hit factors.

After taking the 1st place last week, FAST VP Cesar Isidro fell short tonight after committing a blunder by dropping his magazine with 2 live rounds that gave him two automatic misses added to his 1 Mike during the course. He finished the course in 25.80 seconds which is the fastest time for the same category and collected 11 Alpha, 3 Charlie and 3 Delta that gave him 1.4341 hit factors.

Hamad Al Kandari continues to perform great as he moved one notch from last week and took 4th place tonight. He finished the course in 35.83 seconds and collected 5 Alpha, 9 Charlie, 5 Delta and 1 Mike for 1.3117 hit factors.

Completing the ‘Magic 5’ line-up and the last from the pack is Muath Al Assaf wherein he really sacrificed on his aim and accuracy tonight. He finished the course in 40.95 seconds and collected 8 Alpha, 9 Charlie, 1 Delta and 2 Mikes which is not his usual hits that gave him 1.1722 hit factors.

This did not stop him from taking on another turn but this time, he had to adjust his aim and although it took him 44.39 seconds on his 2nd run, his accuracy improved and he collected 19 Alpha and 1 Charlie that gave him 2.1626 hit factors.

With the above results, Al Shatti and Aragon joined the elite list with Isidro along with Al Assaf and Al Kandari to form the new Magic Five line-up while Cajucom, Al Khafaji, Al Twalaho and Oqab did not compete for tonight’s event.

Professional Category

In the Professional Category, Waleed Al Mutawah again captured another win and scored another hat-trick as he continues to lead the pack with his great performance. He had a great finish as he completed the course in 23.25 seconds for a perfect shoot performance and collected 17 Alpha with 3 Charlie for a whopping 4.0430 hit factors.

In 2nd place is Tamer Al Mutariat who happens to have a perfect shoot performance as well and finished the course in 23.93 seconds. He collected 9 Alpha and 11 Charlie that gave him 3.2595 hit factors.

On his 2nd attempt, he even applied more thrust to his speed and completed the course in 20.76 seconds after collecting 10 Alpha, 8 Charlie and 2 Delta that had gave him 3.6768 hit factors, way more improved on his 1st attempt.

Garcia fell short and became a victim of his own scenario as he settled for 2nd place, although he had a good run and the fastest time for the same category with 19.38 seconds. He sacrificed on his aim and accuracy and collected 8 Alpha, 5 Charlie and 7 Delta for 3.1992 hit factors.

Last but not the least is Daniel Marjanovic, who on his 1st attempt finished the course in 25.34 seconds and collected 12 Alpha, 4 Charlie and 4 Delta for a perfect shoot performance and gave him 2.9992 hit factors.

He had a great run and made another attempt, but it was not as great as his 1st run as he finished the course in 25.80 seconds and collected 10 Alpha, 6 Charlie, 1 Delta but with 3 Mikes that dragged his scores down to 1.5116 hit factors.

With the above result, Al-Mutawah, Al Mutariat and Garcia continues to hold their places in the ‘Tough 3’ line-up while Al Sabah, Al Ansari and Al Kandari did not participate in tonight’s competition.

Meanwhile, FAST officials have announced that all newcomers and members wishing to participate in the weekly shoots should come to the range ahead of time for a ‘dry run’ over the course.

The aim of this dry run is to ensure the safety of newcomers as well as of all those present at the range. The newcomers who fail to turn up for this dry run will not be allowed to take part in the actual competition.

On the other hand, FAST officials invite everyone Tuesday evenings to the weekly fun-shoot competitions at1800 hours.
