African expat perishes in Mahboula fire – 6 women hurt in lift mishap

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 9: An African expatriate died due to smoke inhalation when fire engulfed a building in Mahboula area. According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information about the building on fire, a firefighting team was dispatched to the location. They evacuated the tenants from the building and handed over the affected ones including an African expatriate to paramedics.

However, the victim had died due to inhalation of toxic smoke. His corpse was referred to the Forensics Department and a case was registered. Meanwhile, six women were injured after the cable of an elevator of a private hospital in Hawalli snapped and fell from the fourth floor to the basement, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to reports police, firemen and civil defense personnel rushed to the site of the incident and rescued the six women who were trapped inside. One of the women reportedly sustained fractures and the others escaped with bruises.

And, Farwaniya securitymen arrested an Asian taxi driver for the possession of hashish seeds, says Al-Seyassah. While patrolling the area, the securitymen got suspicious when they saw the vehicle with the suspect in a disoriented state.

They signaled for him to stop only to find that he was intoxicated. After searching the vehicle, the officers discovered the hashish seeds that he was planning to plant. They referred him to the Drugs Control General Department.
