877 Kuwaiti women marry foreigners in 2015: Minister Al-Sana’e

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: Minister of Justice, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Yaqoub Al-Sana’e disclosed that 877 Kuwaiti women were married to non- Kuwaitis in 2015 and the unions entailed 771 wedding ceremonies and 106 marriage endorsements, reports Al-Rai daily.

Meanwhile, 431 Kuwaiti women had registered their marriages to non-Kuwaitis as of June 19, 2016, among them 359 wedding ceremonies and 72 marriage endorsements were held. In response to parliamentary question by MP Hamoud Al-Hamdan regarding the issue, the minister released statistics on the registered marriages between Kuwaiti women and non-Kuwaitis in 2015, indicating 67 out of 590 marriages between Kuwaiti women and non-Kuwaitis were registered through a letter from the executive committee, while 114 involved Bedouns. Concerning marriage endorsements, he stressed 92 cases were for other nationalities; 11 cases were approved through a letter from the executive committee and 3 cases involved Bedouns.

Also, 258 women were married to other nationalities as of June 19, 2016, of which 44 were approved through a letter from the executive committee and 57 involved Bedouns, whereas the number of marriage endorsements for other nationalities in the same period were 64, of which 5 cases were approved through a letter from the executive committee and 3 cases involved Bedouns.
