573 domestic workers arrested – Visas purchased between 800 KD and 1,000 KD

KUWAIT CITY, Apr 27: The intensive campaigns carried by the joint committee led by the Public Authority for Manpower and Residence Investigation revealed new residence dealers.

The recent campaigns resulted in arresting of 573 domestic workers working in companies and businesses other than the one they were brought in which is in violation of the Labor Law which has pointed the suspicion on their sponsors that they have trafficked them into the country.

Since beginning of April till date 573 expat workers have been arrested most of them were in Jahra governorate, they were all referred to the residence investigations as investigation is underway to find out the role of their sponsors and how they entered Kuwait and how much did they pay to buy visa.

According to sources all transaction have been blocked on arrested expat domestic worker so that the sponsors are prevented to transfer domestic workers residence and details have been submitted to the Legal Department of the Ministry of Interior to complete the procedures and transfer them to the Public Prosecution.

During the preliminary investigations it was found that most of the domestic workers were from India and Bangladesh indicated that each of them paid his sponsor about 800 KD to 1,000 KD. Some of them did not stamp residence yet and they use to continue their stay with entry visa.
