KUWAIT CITY, April 14: A joint committee tasked to monitor the conditions of expatriate workers carried out inspection campaigns in four farms in Wafra, which were transformed into shelters or accommodations for workers; resulting in the arrest of 30 workers found to have violated the Residency Law, while many others escaped during the raids..

The illegal persons caught by the police in the Wafra farms can be seen waiting to be registered

This came after the newspaper published a report entitled, “Sheikh’s Farm Violations,” a few days ago. Sources said results of investigations showed that a large number of erring workers are residing in these agricultural plots where they engage in prohibited activities.

Sources revealed around 600 workers residing in one of the agricultural plots were apprehended as they were found to be registered under a governmental contract. Sources explained this is a violation of the law that obliges companies, which have contracts with the State, to provide adequate labor housing registered in the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM).

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the Protection Sector in PAM Dr Mubarak Al-Azmi confirmed that the competent departments have been addressed to suspend the owners of violating files, in coordination with the authority and other concerned government agencies.

He clarified this move aims to control the visa and human traffickers, while praising the tremendous efforts of the inspection teams which work round the clock according to an exceptional work plan.

He warned the authority will not tolerate employers who violate the law; urging everyone to abide by the decisions on regulating the labor market and the contractual relationship with expatriate workers, especially those related to occupational health and safety.
