KUWAIT CITY, July 18: Personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department have busted a three-man gang involved in stealing power generators, cars and chalets on wheels, reports Al-Jaridah daily. The gang consisted of two Kuwaitis – one of them a former employee of the Ministry of Interior who was discharged from duty – and a Syrian.

One of the Kuwaitis is still at large. According to a security source the arrest came upon direct instructions from the Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Abdulhamid Al-Awadhi after the theft of a luxury vehicle which was in the custody of the Salmiya Police Station.

The source added this vehicle was found by the Jahra police and was reportedly used by the suspects to commit a crime in Salmiya. Investigations conducted by securitymen led to identifying the main suspect, the Kuwaiti who had been discharged from duty by the Ministry of Interior and he was subsequently arrested and taken in for interrogation.

During interrogation the suspect admitted to theft charges and guided police to a mobile chalet which he had stolen and gave police the names of his accomplices. Police also found four expensive vehicles said to have been stolen by the gang worth KD 200,000 – including the vehicle that was in custody of the Salmiya police. Police also found with the men 30 power generators stolen from camps. The two thieves have been referred to the authorities while police look for the third.
