KUWAIT CITY, Jan 25: Official spokesperson of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and Director of Public Relations Department Afifah Akbar revealed that 2,227 Kuwaiti women married to non- Kuwaitis were receiving aid worth a total of over KD13.3 million, but the payment continues for only 1,373 among them whose total disbursement is KD10.9 million, reports Aljarida daily.

She explained that the ministry stopped payment for 854 women among the beneficiaries based on certain observations. The ministry did not stop the payment arbitrarily but it followed the stipulations of Article No. 3 of the administrative decision No. A3695/2016 regarding payment of public aid. The decision stipulates payment of aid to Kuwaiti women who are married to or divorced by non-Kuwaitis.

Akbar stressed that the aid is paid based on the condition that the applicant presents an officially attested report to affirm the inability to work, revealing that it was this point that formed the basis for stopping the payment for many of the previous beneficiaries who could not present any medical report to indicate the inability of their husbands to work. She said some of the women did not visit the concerned department to submit required documents before the deadline.

Akbar explained the total suspended files were 2,328. Among those files, 265 were suspended with debts, 517 files did not have any debt, 1,374 failed to visit the concerned department for data update and 172 did not provide enough information.
