1,560 cases of drug abuse, trafficking investigated in 2018 till date

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 26: The head of the Drugs and Alcohol Prosecution Khaled Al-Tahous said the number of cases investigated by the department in 2018 until date was 1,560 concerning drug abuse and trafficking, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Tahous added the number of complaints about drug addiction submitted to the Prosecution by the concerned families was 1,020.

Al-Tahous pointed out the average age of the drug addicts was between 18 and 35 most of whom were reportedly consuming chemicals and shabu – an offense punishable by imprisonment.

In the meantime, Al-Tahous disclosed there is only one center in Kuwait for the treatment of drug addiction that has aa limited clinical capacity 300 beds not enough to treat all addicts. He added, this is in addition to the lack of specialized post-treatment rehabilitation centers.
