100 pct expatriate workforce for SMEs

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 18: Despite the current agitation for population restructure in the country, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and the State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh just issued a decision to allow small and medium projects entrepreneurs to recruit 100 percent of their workers from abroad.

A source noted effective from Sunday, Feb 19 Decision Number 9/2016 was activated allowing small and medium projects entrepreneurs who have secured operating licenses over one year ago and those who just secured licenses to recruit 100 percent of their workers from abroad.

However, it should be based on the activities for which they were registered. In case new files are open for different activities, the same conditions set by the Public Authority for Manpower will be applied. He stressed that small and medium projects have the right to employ 10 workers upon opening the file, and it’s in the form of one worker per five meters, while the condition stipulates that each entrepreneur can have projects of which each has the opportunity to employ a maximum of 100 workers. He noted that workers in a company and its subsidiaries should not exceed 500.
