KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti Cabinet on Wednesday listened to a final report on the secret layers and circumstances of the recent outflow of Mishref wastewater recycling station. During a meeting held at the Kuwait International Airport and presided over by His Highness The Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, Fuad Al-Majid, head of a relevant probe committee, presented a detailed explanation on the incident. He said the committee had adopted a clear-cut scientific method and used the help of experts and technicians in order to find all relevant facts and details bearing on the stages of the sewage station project, including design, supervision, execution, operation and maintenance.
Based on technical and legal analyses, the committee decided who was criminally and administratively responsible for the incident, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Roudhan Abdulaziz Al-Roudhan told reporters following the meeting. Accordingly, the Cabinet asked the Fatwa and Legislation Department to take necessary legal procedures to refer the report to the Public Prosecution for further investigations. It also asked the minister of public works and the Civil Service Commission to form a neutral panel to take required disciplinary measures against those found guilty as per the report in question, the Cabinet minister said. Earlier in September, the Mishref wastewater treatment plant had broken down due to rising heat that caused pumps to stop operating, one after the other.
Meanwhile, at the behest of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, a new university hostel in Shadadiyah will be named after late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. The Cabinet welcomed a planned visit by Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed to Kuwait, wishing him a very pleasant stay here. The ministers were then apprised of recent messages received by the Amir from President Ahmed Abdallah Sambi of Comoros, President Omar al-Bashir of Sudan, President Abdullah Gul of Turkey and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of Italy, handling bilateral relations between Kuwait and their countries.
During the meeting, the prime minister elaborated on the outcomes of a recent visit by King Mswati III of Swaziland to Kuwait, during which he discussed with Kuwaiti leaders how to bolster and cement bilateral ties. Furthermore, the Kuwaiti ministers considered several reports on the latest political Arab and international developments, openly condemning the recent criminal act as “immoral and inhuman” in the Iranian southeast region of Sistan-Baluchestan, which left scores of people killed or injured. Voicing condolence to the neighboring Muslim nation and its friendly people over the victims of this heinous crime, the Cabinet reiterated Kuwait’s principled positions rejecting all terrorist acts and backing all international efforts to fight terrorism.
