Restrictions on 3 nationalities lifted for transfer of ‘visit visas’; ‘Security approval’ needed for remaining four

KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has lifted the restriction imposed on transferring of commercial visit visas to work permits for Lebanese, Afghan and the Libyan nationals, reports Al-Rai Al-Aam daily quoting reliable ministry sources. The sources point out the Ministry of Interior had, two months ago, asked the Social Affairs and Labor Ministry to place restrictions on seven nationalities with regards to transferring of commercial visit visas to work permits citing security reasons. “The citizens of the three mentioned countries can now transfer their commercial visit visas to work permits based on the normal procedures followed in all Labor Departments of the ministry,” state the sources.

Confirming the process of transferring the commercial visit visas to work permits is still being carried out by the Labor Department following the same procedures as were previously applicable, the source said, “The department has not received any further information on the issue.” Following various meetings with the Interior Ministry the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor decided to lift restrictions on some nationalities, said the source. The restrictions on the remaining four nationalities which include Syrians, Pakistanis, Iraqis and Iranians remain in place, added the source. A citizen from the four nationalities still under restriction is required to produce a “security approval” from the Ministry of Interior before being permitted to transfer his commercial visit visa to a work permit, say sources in conclusion.
