Stranded Indian woman repatriated

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 3: An Indian woman from the State of Goa, who was ‘stranded’ in Kuwait after her sponsor refused to release her passport and salary was at last repatriated with the help of Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Kuwait.

Shashikala Naik arrived in Kuwait to work as domestic help on March 21, 2014. When her husband, who was working for a mining company died of cardiac arrest on May 9, 2014, Shashikala requested her sponsor to allow her to go home to perform the last rites and also because there was no one to take care of her small children.

When the sponsor refused, she sought the help of Indian Embassy which in turn requested help from Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After the Criminal Investigation Department of Kuwait issued her no objection certificate, the embassy issued a travel document and she left the country at the end of last August.
