Sheikh Mohammad to organize Awqaf Ministry, fight corruption Minister will carry out tasks successfully: sources

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 29: Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al- Khalid Al-Sabah will soon take a number of procedures to organize Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and fight the corruption that is prevalent in many of its departments for a long time, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting reliable sources.

They indicated that Sheikh Mohammad will not take up longterm responsibility of the ministry because of the huge tasks he has to deal with in Ministry of Interior particularly with the current local and regional situation. However, he will spend time and efforts to apply some corrective and reformative procedures in Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

The sources said they are confident that Sheikh Mohammad will carry out his tasks in Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs successfully unlike his predecessors who were disinterested in dealing with the widespread corruption in the ministry.

They explained that there is a longstanding conflict in the ministry between the members of Muslim Brotherhood Group and those of Salafist Group, adding that some top officials of the ministry disagree on political aspects but agree on depleting the public funds. The sources revealed that the budget for the publications of the ministry is among the highest for a sector not only within the ministry but also in all governmental institutions.

They reiterated that the minister shows no concern about the political belongingness or agenda of the employees or top officials of the ministry but is instead focused on controlling corruption and organizing the ministry due to the current dangerous regional situation.
