Accounts hacked - ‘Poor’ targeted

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 27: Some bank accounts in Kuwait were exposed to theft, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting security sources. According to reports 428 accounts have been hacked and the money stolen varied from one client to another.

It is widely believed three Bulgarians last week visited Kuwait and planted a sensitive device to copy data of ATM cards and PIN numbers at an ATM machine of a bank in Salmiya and allegedly sent the information to their accomplices in the Dominican Republic, who in turn made duplicate cards and withdrew money.

A majority of the victims are Egyptians, Iranians, Lebanese and Indians, and most of them low salaried people, while the number of Kuwaiti victims is small. The sources stressed the concerned authorities are working to bring new devices to monitor the ATMs and sense strange objects.
