MP seeks answers on Ebola PM queried over appointments

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 25: MP Yakoub Al-Sanei presented queries to Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior and acting Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Khalid Al-Sabah on the procedures taken to protect Hajj pilgrims from Ebola virus. The lawmaker asked if there is coordination between the ministries of Health, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in terms of organizing medical teams to provide proper healthcare and vaccination to the pilgrims. He stressed the need to take the necessary precautionary measures, considering the spread of the virus in different parts of the world. Meanwhile, after demanding the resignation of Deputy Premier, Minister of Commerce and Industry and acting Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohsen Al-Modej, MPAbdullah Al-Turaiji forwarded questions to HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al- Mubarak Al-Sabah on the appointments made by the minister.

Al-Turaiji claimed the minister has gone too far in breaching the law and misusing public money, up to the extent that he instigated conflicts between the two authorities. He wants to know if the Cabinet’s policy allows the appointment of siblings and relatives of MPs as advisers in ministries’ offices just to buy their loyalty. He inquired if the premier is aware of the violations committed by Al- Modej as follows:

■Appointment of siblings and relatives of MPs as financial advisers with bonus in his office at the Ministry of Commerce.

■ Appointment of his relative as adviser in his office and nomination as member of the Capital Markets Authority.

■ Appointment of secretary-general of the National Alliance, a bloc that the minister belongs to, as board chairman of Kuwait Stock Exchange Company with a monthly salary of KD 15,000.

■Appointment of the brother of a minister as member of Kuwait Stock Exchange.

■ Appointment of a National Alliance member to the Kuwait Stock Exchange board of directors.

■ Appointment of a member of a lawmaker’s election campaign team to the board of the Capital Markets Authority with a monthly salary of KD13,000.

■ Appointment of the brother of a lawmaker as member of the Supreme Council for Allocation.

■ Illegal return of industrial plots to an incumbent MP, a former MP and other influential persons.

■ Suspension of Eman Al-Ashwaq for refusal to sign the transaction of a company owned by some influential persons.

In another development, MP Abdullah Al-Tamimi has asked Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh to resolve differences between members of the board of directors of Mubarak Al-Kabeer and Al-Qurain Cooperative Society. He said the board is now divided into two — one consists of majority board members and the chairman while the other includes board members who hinder work procedures at the cooperative society to serve political and personal interests. He warned the situation might negatively affect the shareholders and residents in the area if the issue is not solved within this week.
