‘Made in Kuwait’ does not represent brand: Al-Ghanem Write manufacturer’s name, says ministry

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of late has imposed new supervisory instructions on the owners of national products and industries, by obliging them to write the name of the manufacturer among the product’s details and not just the expression ‘Made in Kuwait’, reports Al-Rai daily. Sources pointed out the ministry will take severe punitive measures against shop owners and others in the event of violation of this law — selling the product that does not carry the name of the manufacturer.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in a letter to the Ministry of Social Affairs has asked to approve that decision to deal with any complaint about the product in case the producer violates the standards of the products and do not follow the instructions of Criterions Department in the Public Authority for Industry. Meanwhile, it has been mentioned the Ministry of Commerce and Industry recently has seen many complaints about products written on them ‘Made in Kuwait’ but what is obviously missing in the name of the manufacturer thus complicating the issue of accountability.

Meanwhile, the Board Chairman of Al-Ghanem Industry for Cleaners and Aerosol Qais Al-Ghanem has given nod to the decision of the ministry. He mentioned the decision will protect the rights of consumers in case of a violation. He argued the expression ‘Made in Kuwait’ only without mentioning the name of the industry or company does not represent a brand if the owner cannot be identified or known.
