‘Recycling used tires in Kuwait big opportunity for investment’ Bid to preserve environment

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15: Kuwait is currently facing a serious problem in handling solid wastes such as used tires, as more than 1 million tires are discarded annually. Burying or burning the tires can lead to huge environmental crisis despite the fact that recycling used tires in Kuwait is a big opportunity for investment, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Despite the tremendous efforts exerted to implement the concept of recycling and preserving the environment in the country, Kuwait suffered from an environmental crisis in 2012 when a large number of used tires were set on fire in Jahra area.

Director of Public Relations in the Environment Public Authority Dr Khalid Al-Enezi said the recycling process is considered as one of the important ways for preserving the environment from pollution, adding that it is also aimed to reduce consumption of electricity and water and deterioration of the environment from the negative effects that result when extracting primary substances from oil.

They added that containers to collect recyclable wastes have been placed in commercial complexes, petrol stations, local markets as well as inside ministries, schools and residential buildings.
