‘Report all cases of assault against children in schools’ MoE undersecretary holds marathon meetings with officials

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 14: In compliant with the decision of Health Ministry to curb child abuse and negligence, the acting Minister of Education Souad Al- Harbi has called on the educational zones to report all cases of assault against children in schools at the beginning of the academic year on hotline 151, reports Al- Rai daily. In a letter to the general educational zones, Al-Harbi asserted need to oblige the schools and their affiliated bodies to report suspected cases of assault or child negligence in schools, including the time and place and kind of assault or negligence — whether physical or psychological, not forgetting the perpetrator while clarifying the degree of assault through medical report.

Deliberate
Meanwhile, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education Maryam Al-Wateed has been holding marathon meetings with educational area directors and heads of administrative departments in the ministry to deliberate on their level of readiness to receive the next academic session, reports Al- Seyassah daily. The meeting touched on several aspects, including maintenance, air conditioning, teaching staff and textbooks, while the concerned departments have assured that all required preparations would be completed before resumption of the new school year.

Also, it discussed the need to import chillers, saying it’s the most appropriate solution for air-conditioning problem in several areas, especially Ahmadi and Hawalli governorates. The Public Education Coordination and Follow-up Department will execute plans relating to mechanism of distributing teachers to the schools. The most notable problems facing the ministry are shortage of teachers and air conditioners, so Al-Wateed decided to discuss the matter with emphasis on Ahmadi, Hawalli and Farwaniya educational areas
