‘Children, rent allowances to be included in strategic alternative’ Govt serious in solving housing problem: MP

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 13: MP Dr Yusuf Al- Zalzalah has confirmed that the children and rent allowances will be included in the strategic alternative which the government is expected to submit to the Parliament in the next legislative round, reports Al-Rai daily. In a press statement recently, Al-Zalzalah disclosed the lawmakers will shoulder the responsibilities of finding appropriate solutions to the problems of citizens and presenting proposals to end their suffering in case the government fails to do so. He clarified the strategic alternative covers only the government sector employees, not the retirees.

He said they are still waiting for the government’s vision to be presented by the Ministry of Finance on the inclusion of salary scale, allowances and other benefits. He added there is a plan to include the private sector employees to be equal to their counterparts in public institutions. He reiterated the alternative will be presented to the Parliament immediately after the opening of the next legislative round. He added the higher authority has given instructions to address the housing problem and implement the plan on the distribution of houses or plots. He affirmed the government is serious in its bid to solve the problem.

Meanwhile, Manpower Public Authority Director Jamal Al-Dosari, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, has laid down regulations for handling absconding cases, reports Al-Anba daily. In a recent press statement, Al-Dosari pointed out the Labor Department was established in line with the Labor Law to settle employeremployee disputes and to look into individual and collective complaints, as well as that of the employers who often complain about absconding workers or those absent from work for a long time.

He said a special section at the department is in charge of absconding reports, which are then forwarded to the concerned committee for evaluation in a bid to protect the rights of both the employers and employees. He added a number of regulations have been laid down to organize employer-employee relations. He pointed out that valid absconding reports should be displayed in the institution for everyone to see. He said a labor dispute not settled amicably within two months will be referred to the Interior Ministry. In this case, the issue is no longer in the hands of the authority while the residency permit of the concerned worker is cancelled and he has to leave the country because this is now considered a misdemeanor case as per the law, he explained.
