Accident rate sees rise in ’14 - ‘One mishap each hour’

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 11: The Medical Emergency Unit recorded an increase of 454 road accidents in its half-year report for 2014 with overall number of 4,479 cases of road accidents, while statistics of the same period in 2013 was 4,025 cases. In a press statement, the acting Director of Medical Emergency Unit Jassem Al- Fodari said an average of 24 road accidents happen daily in the country, equivalent to one accident each hour.

He indicated statistics issued by Medical Emergency Unit in the first half of the year determine the overall emergency and non-emergency cases from Jan 1 until June 30, which is 59, 941 cases of which 32,109 were emergency and 21,549 non-emergency, while 4,479 cases were related to road accidents and 540 cases related to fights, in addition to 89 gastric cases with 847 various types of cases.

He reiterated the total number of nonemergency cases was 27,832, of which 1,157 were referred to the Amiri Hospital’s Emergency Unit, 4,461 cases to Farwaniya, and 311 cases to Jahra medical emergency center.
