‘Terror groups seek to ignite sectarian wars in Mideast’ Region must act to counter ISIS threat

According to Al-Anba daily “the leader of DAESH, Abu Bakr al- Baghdadi, has expressed his malicious intent towards Kuwait in his blog on Twitter declaring his intention to attack the country” (see Arab Times, Aug 6, 2014). DAESH or Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) adopts an extremist jihadist ideology, and call upon the establishment of an Islamic Caliphate. In addition to its twisted ideology, its misinterpretation of Islamic genuine teachings of peace, ISIS, an offshoot of al-Qaeda, intends to ignite sectarian holy war among Muslims.

Therefore, the danger of such terrorist groups is not just global, but it intends to undermine the religious and social fabrics of Islamic societies. Therefore, the real danger of such terrorist groups is directed against Islamic societies.

The global world, Western countries can one way or the other protect themselves against terrorist groups. However, we as Muslims have a moral obligation to fight against extremist religious ideologies. The destructive impact of terrorist groups is directed against us as Muslims in particular, threatening our ways of life in our national societies. It is extremely important to understand that terrorist groups like DAESH or al-Qaeda intend to ignite sectarian conflicts in our Middle Eastern region.

Terrorist acts, the massacres of innocent civilians and the destruction of historical sites in the region will change the face of the Middle East forever. We as Middle Eastern individuals will feel the greater impact of ISIS and similar terrorist groups, unless we act against them. Middle Eastern governments and people have a moral obligation to protect their societies against terrorism.

In the following months the global fight against terrorism will turn into a specifically Mideast problem, more than a global one. The Americans, Europeans and perhaps the Russians later continue to fight ISIS and other terrorist groups for the sake of protecting their own societies. However, we as the people of the Middle East can play a greater role in fighting against terrorism.

For example, cooperating with our national governments in their fight against such terrorist groups, spreading the awareness about the danger of terrorism, are steps in the right direction. ISIS and al-Qaeda pose a threat to our way of life in the Middle East, they deplete our human resources, destroy our human potentials for success and prosperity. These terrorist groups prevent us from successfully connecting our human potentials for success with what we can achieve in our societies.

DAESH continues to spill Middl Eastern blood, they continue to wreak havoc in our societies, and they will continue to do so, unless we as free, independent and aspiring people of the Middle East put an end to their debacle and criminality.
