Restriction on expats remains

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 8: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh has refuted an article published by a GCC newspaper that the GCC countries have proposed freedom of movement by expatriate workers within the member states.

In a recent press statement, the minister clarified the decision came from the GCC Supreme Council to allow free movement of GCC nationals within the Arabian Gulf Region and they should enjoy equal treatment anywhere in the region.

She said the expatriate workers are obliged to strictly comply with the constitution of the country in which they work. She added the proposal to be discussed in the GCC Labor Ministers meeting that Kuwait will host in November is about free movement of expatriate workers within the country of residence, not the entire region.
