List of 37 who obtained citizenship illegally out

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 7: MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji has submitted the list of 37 Bedouns and other nationalities who obtained citizenship illegally to Interior Minister and acting Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khalid Al- Sabah. Al-Turaiji attached a set of questions to the list to know how these people obtained citizenship even if some of them have criminal records and others have failed to meet conditions for naturalization.

He wants to know the names of committee members who agreed to grant citizenship to these people and requested for copies of correspondences between the General Citizenship Affairs Department and State institutions on the naturalization of these people.

He enumerated the crimes and violations committed by these people like being outside Kuwait in 1965 and the previous years, rape, murder attempt, possession of unlicensed weapons, commercial fraud, presenting wrong information, theft, drug trafficking , involvement in the Iraqi popular army and breaking into houses. Meanwhile, MP Dr Abdul Hamid Dashti regards Deputy Premier and Minister of Commerce, Industry, Education and Higher Education Dr Abdul Mohsen Mudej as one of the national professionals and competent figures known for their dedicated public service.

However, he thinks giving the minister more than one portfolio has negatively affected his performance. He pointed out the high hopes pinned on the minister when he took over the Ministry of Commerce and Industry was marred by certain shortcomings which could be attributed to the fact that is in charge of several portfolios. He cited as examples the minister’s inability to issue executive regulations for the Subsidized Construction Materials Law and failure to take decisive steps regarding the alleged violations in the Capital Markets Authority (CMA).

He said the minister should have immediately taken strict measures concerning the alleged anomalies in the appointment of CMA officials and dismissed those behind the losses incurred by Kuwait Stock Exchange.

He asserted these losses depleted the funds of small-scale traders who were referred to the Public Prosecution and courts even if they have not done anything wrong except to trust the CMA officials. He added the minister will be questioned on the failure of officials affiliated with influential parties as they work only for their own interests at the expense of small-scale traders.
