‘Multi-million dollar deposits scandal’ Fact-finding committee did a good job: Al-Turaiji

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 5: Head of Parliament’s fact-finding committee in charge of the ‘multi-million dollar deposits scandal’ case MP Abdullah Al-Turaiji revealed that the fact-finding committee of the first nullified parliament did a good job but did not have sufficient time to complete its report, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

In a press statement, he indicated that the current committee went through all the official documents and records, and also sought assistance from the members of the previous committee. MP Al-Turaiji said, “Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Commerce and Industry did not cooperate with the committee regarding the issue of the hike in accounts’ balances during the period between 2006 and 2009.

The committee will address HH the Prime Minister regarding the slackness of the concerned bodies as we are still waiting for their response in this regard”. He revealed that the Ministry of Finance replied to some of the queries by stating that the manner by which the information was acquired was unconstitutional especially the account balances of the MPs.

He stressed that the committee is studying the matter from a constitutional and legal perspective with the help of constitutional experts in order to respond to Ministry of Finance in the next parliamentary term, adding that the committee will include several explanatory notes in its report in order to complete the investigation during the next parliamentary term and extend the tenure of the committee accordingly. MP Al-Turaiji denied the existence of a special report in the State Security Department about the case, insisting that, “Everything that was declared regarding this issue has been specified in the investigation records”.
