Shopowners blamed for Shuwaikh fires

 KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: Deputy Director of Firefighting Affairs and Manpower Development at Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) Brigadier Khalid Al-Mekrad said the fire incidents in Shuwaikh Industrial Area in the last three days were due to violations committed by owners of the shops and carpentry centers against the safety and security regulations. In a recent press statement, Al- Mekrad disclosed the investigation unit affiliated to KFSD has started conducting investigations to determine the actual causes of the fire incidents. He confirmed the firefighters exerted tremendous efforts to douse the fire which engulfed stores along Al-Zeena Street and spread to other shops. Meanwhile, fire engulfed a carpentry workshop of area 500 square meters on Banks Street in Shuwaikh Industrial Area.

No injuries were reported. According to sources, this was the third fire incident that has occurred in Shuwaikh Industrial Area in three consecutive days. When the Control Room of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate received information about a workshop containing paintings and wood on fire, firefighters rushed to the location with securitymen and paramedics and extinguished the fire before it spread to nearby shops on Banks Street. Investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the fire.

High-ranking officials of fire sector were present at the location to supervise the firefighters in the operation. In another incident, firemen managed to douse fire in a vehicle that went up in flames on the Airport Road opposite Farwaniya, without recording human injury. Fire sources said a passerby personally came to the Farwaniya Fire Brigade to inform officers about the incident, and a team of firemen rushed to extinguish the blaze. A case was registered.
