MP hails labor minister’s efforts in dealing with non-profit bodies sans discrimination Info minister praised over action on ‘Hajar’ play

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: MP Abdul Hamid Dashti praised Information Minister Sheikh Salman Al- Hamoud for referring the producers of the play — “Hajar” — to the Public Prosecution as the content of the play was deemed offensive to the Shiites. Dashti hopes the government will firmly stand against anyone who tries to divide the people of Kuwait by spreading sectarianism. The lawmaker made the statement after receiving information that the minister referred the producers of the play to the prosecution for insulting religious figures Earlier, MP Abdullah Al-Tamimi had asked the government to stop the play which is being shown at Al-Daiya Theatre because it allegedly mocked the Islamic rituals and personalities.

He said many members of the art community had previously objected to his proposal to look into their works which disregard values of the society as the main focus is quick material gain at the expense of national unity. He said he watched video clips of the play, indicating the content is vulgar and it ridicules a segment of Muslims. He stressed the need to enforce the National Unity Law to stop the play and refer its producers to the prosecution.

Also, Attorney Ali Al-Ali has submitted a complaint to the Attorney General against the cast of the play, indicating they should be put on trial for blasphemy.

Meanwhile, MP Sadoun Hammad Al-Otaibi lauded the efforts exerted by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Planning and Development Affairs Hind Al- Subeih in dealing with non-profit organizations without discrimination. He said some of these organizations are engaged in unauthorized activities and transformed themselves into political blocs to achieve personal and political goals without looking into the main purpose of their establishment. He warned against this move due to its negative impact on national security and stability.

He called on the concerned authorities to suspend issuance of licenses to non-profit organizations proven to have deviated from the activities they have been licensed for. He also emphasized the need to strictly enforce the law on the erring organizations which tried to tamper with national security and stability. He asserted the security of Kuwait should be a top priority. He affirmed the lawmakers fully support the minister in her bid to address the issue, particularly in taking the necessary action against those who have violated the law. He also underscored the significance of intensifying efforts to maintain the security and stability of the nation
