Casualty dept handled 6,000 patients daily on Eid holidays No power, water disruption witnessed on Eid Al-Fitr

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 2: The Ministry of Health has revealed that the casualty departments in major public hospitals across the country received minimum of 6,000 patients per day during Eid Al-Fitr holiday, while the ambulance centers handled 812 emergency cases, reports Al-Seyassah daily. According to the ministryís official Twitter account, the total number of patients treated at Jahra Hospital Casualty Department per day was 1,723 ñ the highest number.

This was followed by Farwaniya Hospital with an average of 1,171 patients daily, while Adan Hospital treated about 954 patients per day. Mubarak Hospital Al-Kabeer dealt with about 875 cases, Sabah Hospital handled an average of 458 cases daily and Amiri Hospital treated an average of 429 patients daily.

The statistical report disclosed the ambulances from emergency centers took 812 patients to hospitals until Thursday afternoon ñ 528 of the cases were emergencies and 284 were categorized as nonemergency. The Medical Emergency Department transported 206 patients on the first day of Eid, out of which 136 were emergency cases while 70 were nonemergency. On the second day, the department transported 246 cases which included 162 emergencies. On the third day, medical emergency teams dealt with 257 patients, including 167 emergencies. As at 1:30pm on the fourth day, emergency officials transported 103 patients ñ 63 were emergencies and 40 were non-emergencies.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electricity and Water said the country did not witness electricity and water disruption during Eid Al-Fitr, such that there was no single power failure or any unfortunate incident throughout the holiday, reports Al-Anba daily. An official source disclosed the current electricity load is reasonable despite the high temperature. He attributed this to the consumersí adherence to power conservation advisories, in addition to the fact that several citizens and expatriates spent the holiday abroad. He said the electricity index as at Friday was 10,920 megawatts which was normal. He added that the ministry has the ability to produce 14,000 megawatts if all power stations work optimally. In a related development, Al- Watan Arabic daily has quoted another source from the ministry as saying that the country has overcome 65 percent of the delicate period during summer. He pointed out the rate of power outage this year is relatively low compared to previous years. He revealed the difference in power outage this year and previous years is about 68 percent.

The source explained the ministry linked the diesel generators to power transformers as a precautionary measure in case of power outage due to high temperature or overloading. He declared the country saved about KD450 million annually because of the successful power conservation campaign.
