Failaka visitors warned ‘Driving own boats without licence against law’

KUWAIT CITY, July 27:  Director of Marine Formations in the Interior Ministry Colonel Saleh Al-Foudari has instructed the heads of marine patrols to take action against those who drive or own boats without a license, reports Al-Rai daily. In his directive, Al-Foudari stressed the need to withdraw the registration book of the ship whose driver or owner violated the regulation.  He said if the registration book is not available, the civil ID of the owner or the driver will be withdrawn. This step is in line with Ministry of Communications decision number 3644/2013 which stipulates conditions and regulations on the use of ships and other marine vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communications on Sunday warned visitors of Failaka Island to be cautious as a concrete buoy south of the island was damaged in a crash. As soon as the accident was reported, the Ministry fixed warning lights in the area around buoy “M 31”, which poses a threat especially at night, Ministry undersecretary Hameed El-Kattan said in a press release. He added that the Ministry will take all the necessary measures regarding the idle buoy for the safety of vacationers and navigation in the region. He urged vessels sailing south of Failaka to be cautious till repairs of the buoy are done.
