Decision to revoke citizenship of certain people constitutional: MP ‘Baitak closure decision based on its board’s request’

KUWAIT CITY, July 25: MP Nabil Al-Fadhel affirmed that the decision to revoke citizenship of certain people is undoubtedly constitutional, indicating that the government would have revoked the citizenships of Al-Mislim, Al-Barrak and Al-Tabtabaie if its decision was intended for political revenge as claimed by some people, reports Al-Shahed daily. MP Al-Fadhel stressed that the leadership had revoked the citizenships of many people in the past including a royal family member for similar reasons. He blamed the government for its delay in implementing the Constitution because people were abusing the authority, adding that they continued to insult the government after it eventually implemented the Constitution.

He urged the Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid to publish the names of lawmakers who used their influence to grant citizenship to some undeserving people. He stressed that such a step will extinguish their fire with the same transparency that they claim to support.  Addressing former MP Jama’an Al-Harbash, MP Al-Fadhel said, “The law that you trivialize and the authority that you do not respect have shaved the beard of your neighbor. Therefore, it is time for you to wet your own beard”.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Finance House ‘Baitak’ clarified in a press release that the decision taken by Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor to shut down ‘Baitak Charitable Association’ was based on a request submitted by the Board of Directors of Baitak to the ministry’s undersecretary, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The request to close the charitable institution was submitted on July 22, 2013 through which the Baitak Board of Directors asked for ministry’s approval for taking necessary measures to close the institution. It explained that the institution was deemed unnecessary following the issuance of the decision to transfer the annual Zakat of the Baitak stakeholders to Kuwait Finance House, which is a governmental institution. Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor accepted the request after finding no violations in the work of the institution.
