103,026 passengers leave Kuwait on Thursday Heavy rush seen at Kuwait airport

KUWAIT CITY, July 24: Kuwait International Airport experienced heavy congestion on Thursday, as almost 103,026 passengers departed from the country to spend their Eid Al-Fitr holidays overseas. The General Department for Civil Aviation indicated that such a situation is expected during the last days of Ramadan. It affirmed that about 526 normal flights and 38 additional flights are expected to depart from the airport from 24th to 28th of July. 
 
It further indicated that more than 74,000 passengers are expected to leave the country during Eid Al-Fitr holidays from July 28th to August 2nd, adding that about 388 normal flights and 15 extra flights will depart from the airport during that period. It stressed that all flights at that period will have the capacity of about 200,000 passengers.
 
Airport sources revealed that four new gates have been opened at the airport for Al-Jazeera Airways in a bid to reduce the congestion, adding that the airport was prepared in expectation of experiencing twice the normal rate of congestion due to the keenness of many people of Kuwait to spend their Eid Al-Fitr holidays and summer vacation outside the country.  They explained that the preferred touristic destinations for the people of Kuwait are Istanbul, Dubai, East-Asian countries, Sharm el-Sheikh, Cairo, Mashhad, Jeddah, London and Beirut.
