Issuance, renewal of visas begins online Bid to end negative aspects

KUWAIT CITY, July 18: The Public Authority for Manpower has opened an online portal for companies handling government contracts as part of strategies to ease procedures for them, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting Director General of the authority Jamal Al-Dousari. Al-Dousari disclosed the authority has taken the first step through the issuance and renewal of work permits using the portal, in addition to final cancellation for travel. He explained the final cancellation is for workers who are outside the country or in case of death. He added the first step includes procedures for printing computerized list of workers registered under the companies.

He said that, within the next few days, the authority will include issuance of work permits for the first time through the portal for companies involved in government projects. He affirmed the procedures will eliminate many negative aspects of the previous system. He cited reduction of paper work, stealing of revenue stamps and problems associated with shortage of employees. He also revealed that since the authority has started using the portal; it has issued 2,983 work permits and finally cancelled 705 procedures. He added 167 companies have benefited from the simplified procedures. Also: KUWAIT CITY: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Subaih issued a ministerial decision recently and announced the Kuwait Society for National Brotherliness for an indefinite period, reports Al-Anba daily.

In an unrelated development, the minister interacted positively with complaints submitted by employees of the Public Relations Department and canceled the fingerprint attendance system, which she stressed, does not cope with the nature of work as the working hours is extended from time to time while holding seminars and meetings and interviews with the media. The minister said the fingerprint attendance system will be applied in all sectors of the ministry to oblige employees to comply with the official working hours as a positive step to achieve development and reform. Meanwhile, sources disclosed that the board of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) at a recent meeting headed by Oil Minister Dr Ali Al- Omair approved the financial results of the ended financial year, reports Al- Seyassah daily. They stressed KPC subsidiaries attained KD1.5 billion in profits which is less than the previous year where KD2.5 billion was recorded. They added Kuwait Petroleum International registered a loss of $1.2 billion.
