Three held as drug pills found in Girgean sweets

KUWAIT CITY, July 13: Three individuals were arrested by Ahmadi security operatives at a shop for selling sweets in Fahaheel area when narcotic pills were found inside ‘Girgean’ sweets sold to clients.

Apparently, the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali formed a team of detectives to verify the information after receiving a tip-off that the store in question was selling narcotic pills hidden in girgean sweet wrappers. Guarded by search and arrest warrant from Public Prosecution, security operatives raided the shop and arrested three Arab nationals who work there, with two other Arabs who came to the shop to purchase girgean hampers, which actually contained narcotic pills.

Security sources said the suspects were referred to the concerned authorities after the officers conducted a search and found narcotic pills inside girgean sweet wrappings.

Meanwhile, photos of different types of narcotic pills hidden in sweets prepared to be sold for girgean have been circulating on social media. In a statement, Security Information Department of the Interior Ministry allayed fears of the general public saying ‘no drugs or intoxicants are hidden in girgean sweets’, noting the drug discovered is used for treating allergy. Investigations are ongoing to determine the reasons for keeping such pills inside sweet packs.
