America and Japan face-off Canada, Austria battle for place in the finals

KUWAIT CITY, July 12: The American Football world Championship currently being held in Kuwait, under the patronage of H.H the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, will continue tonight on its 3rd day of match ups. In the 1st group, winners of day 2, Canada and Austria will be pitched against each other at the Al-Nasr sports club, a match that would determine which of the 2 teams will go on to the finals.

Meanwhile, after suffering heavy defeats at the hands of Canada and Austria, Kuwait have another chance to redeem themselves when they take on France. France need a draw to secure 3rd place in the group and to have a shot at taking the 5th or 6th place in the championship. In the 2nd group, America and Japan will meet at the fields of Salmiyah sports club, which will be followed by Mexico VS Germany.

Considering Japan have accumulated 3 points from winning against Germany and tying with Mexico, they might have to share 2nd place in the group with Mexico if they were to lose against America, and Mexico win against Germany. Head German coach pointed out that their match up against America was unfair in a way, for like Canada, America have accumulated years and years of experience, which is the reason why the German team attempted to lock out their side of the field taking a more defensive approach, noting that mistakes committed during the last match would not be repeated when they go against Mexico tonight.

Furthermore, participating teams intensified practice and training in preparation for day 3 of the championship, which will conclude the group stage, but the Kuwaiti team took preparation to a mental level, as they took a group trip to the Avenues in order to wind down and better prepare for their match against France.

Head coach of the Kuwaiti team, James William stated that he is proud of his players, for they have delivered outstanding performances in both matches against Canada and Austria, despite the fact that one holds the title and the other is one of the giants in U-19 American football.  He added that considering members of the team are younger in comparison to the rest of players in the championship, and lack the experience due to jumping straight into the international field, the team brilliantly executed every strategy and tactic that was prepared by the technical team prior to every match.

“I’m confident that the future of this sport is going to be bright in Kuwait,” stated the coach as he noted that Kuwait participating in the U-19 World Championship has strengthened the confidence of both the team and the organizing committee, but efforts has to be doubled in order to continue promoting the sport and raise the team’s performance even higher.

After Kuwait lost to Austria on day 2 of the championship last Thursday, the title of “most valuable player” was given to the player that performed best in both teams.  Sheikh Mishal Talal Al- Fahad Al-Sabah, Deputy Chairman of the Asian Federation of American Football (AFAF), honored Khaled Jumaa as most valuable player from the Kuwaiti team, while Hertel Alexander was honored from the Austrian team.
