Amir calls on armed forces to be vigilant, ready Officers, men grateful for visit

KUWAIT CITY, July 12, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah visited Friday the Kuwait Army Officers’ Club, Interior Ministry’s building and Kuwait National Guard (KNG) Officers’ Club on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. His Highness the Amir was accompanied by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah, deputy chief of KNG Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al- Hamad Al-Sabah. His Highness the Amir, at Kuwait Army Officers’ Club, was received by Deputy Premier and Defense Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al Sabah, Chief of Staff General Abdulrahman Mohammad Al- Othman, Defense Ministry Undersecretary Jassar Abdulrazzaq Al-Jassar and senior army officers.

His Highness Sheikh Sabah, addressing the officers, highly appreciated the great role of armed forces in the protection of Kuwait. He called for vigilance and readiness vis-a-vis critical political and security circumstances in the region in order to confront whoever seeks to undermine security and stability of the country. He noted that the government has worked hard to develop the armed forces through state-ofthe- art equipment and armament to upgrade their capabilities.

His Highness the Amir paid tribute to all soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their country. General Al-Othman, for his part, thanked His Highness the Amir for the visit and said the armed forces were adopting a strategy aimed at confronting all challenges facing the country with the aim of honoring aspirations of the Kuwaiti people. The military institute, said Al-Othman, seeks to examine the surrounding security environment to pinpoint sources of threats at the regional and international levels, citing threats also posed by the armed groups.

His Highness the Amir then visited Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah’s building at the Interior Ministry, where he was received by Deputy Premier, Interior Minister and Acting Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Interior Ministry Undersecretary General Sulaiman Fahad Al-Fahad. His Highness the Amir said the security forces have a great role to play to preserve order in the country. He called on the security forces to implement the law strickly against riots, violent acts, disruption of traffic, attacking police forces, and public and private properties, as well as other crimes like cybercrimes, drug trafficking and violence among youths.

His Highness the Amir called on the interior ministry to exert efforts to address traffic congestions as well as violations of traffic laws that ultimately killed many people, particularly youth. “The current phase in the region is critical and this requires vigilance and readiness to confront anyone seeking to undermine security and stability of the nation, as well as against those attempting to incite chaos and discord, “ he emphasized. “I call for the strict implementation of law on everybody and without exception ...,” he said. General Al-Fahad said police forces were determined to defend the country, and noted the security troops have been mounting the war against crime and cybercrimes, drugs and every illegal act. Drug enforcement agents’ have been mounting their crack down on narcotics and drug traffickers, working hand-inhand with regional and international parties to tighten the grip on drug dealers. The interior ministry has diversified services for citizens and expatriates through 40 services centers nationwide, he said, and added the centers would increase to 60 in near future.

His Highness, meanwhile, visited KNG’s Officers Club and was received by head of KNG His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, his deputy Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah and KNG’s Acting Undersecretary Major-General Hashem Abdulrazzaq Al- Rifae. His Highness the Amir asserted the important role of the national guards as the “first backup” of the armed forces and security bodies. He said the national guards were playing an important role in protecting the nation, guarding the public and vital facilities.

His Highness Sheikh Sabah highly appreciated the great role of KNG Chief His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al- Sabah and Sheikh Mishal for improving the military capabilities and expertise of the national guards. His Highness the Amir congratulated the KNG for winning Kuwait’s Transparency and Reform Prize. He wished them the best of luck in performing their duties and paid tribute for their late colleagues who sacrificed their lives for their country. Major-General Al-Rifae pledged that the national guards would keep abiding by the “wise guidance” of His Highness the Amir to perform their duties hand-inhand with the ministries of defense and interior.

He said KNG was about to finalize its 2010-15 strategic plan and would proceed with the next 2015-20 plan that aimed at addressing domestic and regional challenges. He added that the second strategic plan would be based on three projects: helicopter, chemical defense center and early-warning radar system. Al-Rifae said this strategy aimed at boosting professional capabilities of the national guards. He said KNG signed cooperation protocols with the Arab Open University, Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) to provide educational opportunities for the national guards. Al-Rifae also said that KNG signed cooperation protocols with Bahrain’s National Guards. Part of KNG’s social initiatives, he said, a branch of blood bank has opened in Sumood Camp. His Highness the Amir was also accompanied Minister of Amiri Diwan Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Sabah and his Deputy Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah.
