Speaker to call panel meet on recent happenings

KUWAIT CITY, July 11: Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq Al- Ghanim announced that he’ll call for a parliamentary affairs committee meeting on Sunday to discuss the latest local and regional political developments in the presence of members of the parliament, and Ministers of Defense and Interior, State Minister for Cabinet and Parliamentary Affairs, Information and others, reports Al-Rai daily.

In a press statement, the Parliament Speaker indicated an emergency parliamentary session will be held on Sunday based on the upcoming meeting. Al-Ghanim pointed to his capacity as the chairman of Arab Parliamentary Union, stressing “I will call for an emergency meeting of Arab parliaments to discuss the latest events in Gaza”, and coordinate with the Speakers of Palestinian and Jordanian parliaments to choose the time and place for the emergency meeting, which is expected to take place in the course of the week.

Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh presided over a meeting of the board of Civil Service Commission (CSC) on Wednesday during which they approved the decision to appoint three top officials in the country, reports Al- Anba daily quoting informed sources.

They revealed that three new assistant undersecretaries will be appointed — Fadhel Sayed Abbas for Ministry of Oil, Saad Mohammad Meshan Al-Otaibi for State Ministry for Youth Affairs and Kamel Al- Abduljaleel for the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters. Sources said the Cabinet will continue to hold its sessions to ensure the executive bylaws and the strategic alternatives for increments of salaries and children allowance is ready by the beginning of the coming legislative term in October. Meanwhile, Acting Minister of Higher Education Abdulmohsen Al-Mudej has decided to appoint Dr Fahad Al-Hajri as the Dean of Higher Institute for Theatric Arts.

In addition, an official from Ministry of Public Works revealed that the ministry will shuffle a number of directors including those of the Maintenance Sector in the six governorates after Eid Al-Fitr holidays. He explained that there are about 2 directors in each governorate for maintenance works, networks and buildings, indicating that this rotation is aimed for executing the projects that are included in the developmental plan.
