MoH in funds misappropriation Scholarship for ‘gay’ row

KUWAIT CITY, July 11: Several meetings have been held between senior officials of the Ministry of Health to prepare a response to queries submitted by the Audit Bureau concerning medical agreements and contracts that have been signed by the Ministry with a number of international hospitals and medical centers over the past years, reports Al-Kuwaitiah daily quoting reliable sources.

According to these sources the Audit Bureau has accused the Ministry of Health of failing to protect public funds in addition to a weak technical and financial supervision on those contracts which have led to the ministry losing its rights.

Sources mentioned the Ministry of Health will hold accountable those responsible for negligence if what has been mentioned in the Audit Bureau report is proved right. In another development, Director General of the Public Authority for Applied Education & Training (PAAET) Dr Ahmad Al-Athari declined to comment on MP Saadoun Hammad’s statement that he had granted scholarship to a Kuwaiti gay, writes Al-Rai daily.

Al-Athari said all Kuwaiti citizens have the right to receive scholarship and there is no discrimination in that aspect, noting everyone obtains scholarship through the official channels, in accordance with rules and regulations.

For his part, professor of educational technology, Dr Badr Al-Khodri said PAAET accept large numbers of students every year, and there are young people who tend to be feminine and girls who tend to be masculine, so the problem is not new to the management.

He reiterated the above-mentioned category is also considered as citizens and eligible for education, employment and health care enjoyed by all other Kuwaiti citizens, in spite of gender.
