No ‘transfers’ in absconder cases

KUWAIT CITY, July 10: Director General of the Immigration Department Major General Talal Marafe recently issued a decision prohibiting the transfer of residence permit for any foreigner from one sponsor to another if an absconding case was filed against the latter, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources. Sources said the department has stated that foreigners who have been reported absconding must be deported, indicating Marafe took this decision to regulate the labor market.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary of the Interior Ministry Lieutenant General Suleiman Al-Fahad has instructed all security agencies not to receive or respond to requests for dispatching police officers to functions organized by foreigners.

He said such requests must be submitted to the ministry whether through private companies or through Internet advertisements.

On the other hand, Al-Seyassah daily has reported that the Central Statistics Administration is now preparing the 2014 manpower survey which will be conducted for three months starting from October.

Sources said the survey is considered a major project, disclosing a similar survey was conducted in 2008. Sources added the respondents of the survey will include more than 5,000 Kuwaiti and non-Kuwaiti families.

Sources revealed the main objective of the survey is to determine the number of employees working in the public and private sectors, number of employees as per their nationalities, salary scale and unemployment rate.

Sources said the results of the survey will be used in taking steps to ensure the educational institutions produce graduates specialized in fields that the local labor market needs.

Sources confirmed the survey will greatly contribute to efforts to obtain accurate data on the labor market in Kuwait.

Sources said this will be different from the statistical information gathered from the registry and administration records submitted by various government bodies as these are usually full of errors.

It has been mentioned that the concise statistical report issued by the department for 2014 indicated the overall number of unemployed Kuwaitis reached 19,218 in 2013 - an increase by 200 compared to 2012.

The report also revealed that movement in the labor market for 2013 and the total number of employees in the public sector reached 335,333 and 240,170 of them are Kuwaitis
